What is an Arrow?

An arrow is a graphic symbol used to point or indicate direction. It consists of a line segment with a triangle or angled shape at one end to show which way to go.

Everyday use: Arrows appear on road signs, directional displays, and subway maps to guide people to their destinations.

Documents: Arrows appear in flowcharts, diagrams, and process maps to show the flow of information or steps.

Math and logic: Arrows represent function mapping (→), logical implication (⇒), and bidirectional relationships (↔).

Programming: Arrows are used in arrow functions (=>), pointer operators (->), and similar code syntax.

How to Type Arrows

Windows

Method 1: Emoji Panel

1. Press Win + . (period) or Win + ; (semicolon).
2. Navigate to the symbols tab in the emoji panel.
3. Select the arrow category and select the arrow you need.

Method 2: Alt Codes

• → (right): Alt + 26
• ← (left): Alt + 27
• ↑ (up): Alt + 24
• ↓ (down): Alt + 25

Method 3: Character Map

1. Search for “Character Map” in the Start menu.
2. Find and select the arrow you want.
3. Click “Copy” to copy it to your clipboard.

macOS

Method 1: Character Viewer

1. Press Control + Command + Space to open the Character Viewer.
2. Select “Arrows” from the left menu.
3. Click any arrow to insert it.

Method 2: Search

1. In the Character Viewer, type “arrow” in the search box.
2. Browse through the list and select the arrow you need.
