Install Windows 11 on Old PCs - Bypass TPM 2.0 in One Click

Page content

Updated for Windows 11, October 2025

Windows 11 won’t install on computers without TPM 2.0 support.
But there’s a simple workaround - you can bypass this requirement and install Windows 11 on older PCs.
Here’s how to do it, step by step.

  1. Download ISO from Microsoft’s official website
  2. Create bootable USB with Rufus
  3. Install Windows 11

Let’s get started!

Download Windows 11 Installation Image (ISO)

First, download the installation ISO from Microsoft’s official website.
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows11

Go to the link above and scroll down to the Disk Image (ISO) section.
Select “Multi-edition ISO for x64 devices” and click the [Download Now] button.
After selecting Windows language and clicking [Confirm], the [64-bit Download] button will appear.

Click the [64-bit Download] button to start downloading the ISO.
The file is about 7GB,
so depending on your internet speed, it might take anywhere from 5 to 30 minutes.

Grab a coffee while you wait!

Create Bootable USB with Rufus

Rufus makes it easy to create bootable USB drives from ISO files.
Download the latest version from the Rufus homepage.

You can download the standard version or the portable one.
I’m using the portable version here.

Before you start, unplug all USB drives except the one you want to use.
This process will erase everything on the USB, so make sure you’ve got the right one plugged in.

When you first run Rufus, it’ll ask about checking for updates.
Just click [No] - it doesn’t really matter.

When Rufus opens, double-check the USB capacity to make sure you’ve got the right drive.

Click the [SELECT] button and choose the Windows 11 ISO file you downloaded.
Rufus will automatically configure the settings once it detects the ISO.

Here’s the key step: when you see the Windows User Experience window, check both of these:

  • Remove requirement for 4GB+ RAM, Secure Boot and TPM 2.0
  • Remove requirement for an online Microsoft account

Make sure both boxes are checked - this is what lets you bypass TPM 2.0 on older PCs.

Now click the [START] button to create your Windows 11 bootable USB!

Install Windows 11 from Bootable USB

Now let’s boot from the USB and install Windows 11.

Open Settings by pressing the Windows button, or use the Windows key + I shortcut.

In Settings, click Update & Security,
Windows Settings - Update & Security

Select Recovery from the left menu, then click the [Restart now] button.
Advanced startup options - Restart now button

Your PC will restart and show you a boot options screen.
Click [Use a device] and select your USB drive to begin the Windows 11 installation.
